G2 Take Down FlyQuest at LoL Worlds 2025 to Guarantee Europe’s Best Finish in Years

Over the past few years, North America has had Europe’s number at Worlds. EU hasn’t managed to make it into the quarterfinals since 2022, but G2 have broken the curse and made it to the next stage.

In 2023, NRG completely decimated G2 at Worlds and knocked them out just before quarters. In 2024, G2 got some of the worst draws imaginable and failed to overcome BLG and T1. In 2025, G2 got decimated entirely in a 0-3 loss against FlyQuest at MSI.

Finally, after almost 3 years, G2 is back on top and breaking Europe’s curse at Worlds 2025. In what started as one of Europe’s worst international years in LoL history, G2 is ending strong.

However, FlyQuest didn’t make it easy, and it looked like the set was theirs up until G2 suddenly took a teamfight at the end. G2 is looking strong, but they’ll have to play even better if they want a chance against the best teams from the East.

G2 Reach Worlds Quarters for First Time Since 2020

While a European team made it to the quarter finals in 2022, it wasn’t G2. It was the now-defunct Rogue that took that spot, with G2 not making it past the opening stages of the international event since 2020. Considering they made it to the finals at Worlds in 2019, it’s been a huge fall from grace for the team.

Sure, G2 was still widely considered the best team in Europe in the years since, but this fact has left fans in the region even more disappointed in their performance. And, though the series wasn’t exactly smooth sailing for G2, they at least managed to bring it home in the end.

As many of the best matches in LoL history have ended, Rasmus “Caps” Winther managed to get one Orianna ult in at just the right time to beat LTA team FlyQuest and take the game. Sometimes one good teamfight is all you need.

G2 isn’t blind to the fact that this win doesn’t exactly make them a frontrunner for the title, but they’re embracing it. As BrokenBlade said in an interview right after the match, “As long as there’s delusion, there is hope.”

Meanwhile in the FlyQuest camp, spirits aren’t exactly high after the lost. Kacper “Inspired” Słoma also did an interview on broadcast after the match and expressed his disappointment in the result.

“I didn’t really think about [who we face next] because I wasn’t expecting us to lose, because I think G2 is the weakest that we could have faced. I think, right now, that all the other teams are going to be stronger. I don’t really mind who we face,” he explained.

“As long as we play better than we did now, we can win. But, if we play to a similar level, it doesn’t matter who we draw, we are going to lose.”

Things could also get even better for Europe from here. While Fnatic dropped out in abysmal fashion, MAD Lions KOI still have a chance to make it out at the time of writing.
