Former IU basketball All-American Calbert Cheaney will be joining Peacock’s studio team this season.

Cheaney will work as a studio analyst for Peacock’s “College Countdown.”

From an NBC Sports release: “A 13-year NBA veteran (No. 6 overall pick in 1993 Draft), he was a three-time All-American at Indiana and is still the Big Ten men’s all-time leading scorer. Cheaney makes his debut as a college basketball analyst on Peacock this season.”

Other new analysts on Peacock this season include former Iowa coach Lisa Bluder and NBA veterans Brendan Haywood and Evan Turner.

The 54-year-old spent the last two seasons at IU on Mike Woodson’s staff as the director of player development.

Before his most recent stint in Bloomington, Cheaney was a member of the Indiana Pacers staff for three seasons.

A native of Evansville, Cheaney played for the Hoosiers from 1989 through 1993, where he was a three-time All-American. He is the Big Ten’s all-time leading scorer with 2,613 career points.

In his four seasons at IU, Cheaney led IU to a 105-27 record and four NCAA tournament appearances. IU reached the Final Four in 1992.

As a senior, he averaged 22.4 points and 6.2 rebounds and won the Naismith College Player of the Year honor and the John R. Wooden Award.

For his career, Cheaney averaged 19.8 points and 5.2 rebounds and shot 55.9 percent.

He still holds the school record for field goals made with 1,018. He is one of four players in program history to earn national player of the year accolades. Scott May, Kent Benson and Victor Oladipo are the others.

Cheaney was the No. 6 pick in the 1993 NBA Draft by the Washington Bullets and played 13 seasons with the Bullets, Boston, Denver, Utah and Golden State.

He appeared in 825 regular-season NBA games and posted career averages of 9.5 points, 3.2 rebunds and 1.7 assists.
