Earlier this week, Breanna Stewart posted a cryptic message on social media that seemed to call someone out for being “two-faced.” At first, nobody really knew who she was referring to or the context of the same. Not long after, Jonquel Jones posted something similar, which made fans start connecting the situation to her as well.
“For the two-faced people, it is the time of the year to reveal your other face,” Stewart wrote on Threads.
“I love when people find out I meant every word I said,” a graphic on Jones’ Story read.
“if 11 toes we’re had 11 toes would be down 😌You got two strikes with me. Because after the third it’s 🌬️,” Jones captioned the Story.
Fans immediately began stirring up theories, suggesting that the two New York Liberty teammates were taking shots at each other. The rumors started spreading quickly online. But before things could go any further, Jones jumped in to set the record straight.
She responded to a fan on Twitter who suggested the two were having issues, suggesting that the timing of their respective social media activities was purely coincidental.
“Yall messy as hell but yall wish! Me and Stew good 🤣😂,” Jones’ replied to a fan’s tweet, who speculated ongoing beef between the Liberty teammates.
Jonquel Jones and Breanna Stewart have been teammates for the past three seasons, joining the NY Liberty together in 2023. There has never been any public conflict between them.
In fact, their chemistry has been one of the team’s biggest strengths. They have formed one of the most dominant frontcourts in the league and played a major role in helping the franchise win the 2024 championship.

NY Liberty fans were tense when both Jonquel Jones and Breanna Stewart shared their respective cryptic posts on social media. However, fans went from anxious to relieved instantly after Jones cleared the air.

There has already been plenty for Liberty fans to handle this year. The team was unable to finish with the best record in the Eastern Conference for the first time in three seasons, exited the playoffs in the opening round, and then made the sudden decision to move on from Sandy Brondello.
The idea of tension between star players could have made things even harder for fans to deal with. Thankfully, Jonquel Jones’ comments reassured everyone that there is no drama with Breanna Stewart. As things stand, the chemistry between Liberty players is still intact.
