HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Two people are facing charges after being accused of not quickly getting a child who ate THC gummies medical treatment.
The Horry County Police Department charged Michael Clark and Alysha Clark each with unlawful conduct toward a child, jail records show.
Documents state that the 5-year-old child ate 150 milligrams of THC gummies around 9 a.m. Wednesday, while at the 100 block of Vaught Place in the Myrtle Beach area.
According to the documents, medical staff said this amount could have seriously harmed or killed the child.
Alysha told officers she woke up around 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, and heard Michael asked the child what they took, a police report shows.
Michael then opened a cabinet on the top row of their kitchen, and he saw that his gummies were not there, and instead, on the floor, “freshly opened with no more gummies inside them,” the report reads.
Alysha noticed the child “stumbling and swaying” before she called someone and asked what to do, the report states.
The person told Alysha to monitor the victim, and Alysha told officers she checked on the child every seven minutes to make sure they were okay.
The child fell asleep at 11 a.m. and stayed unresponsive until the two took the child to the hospital later that night, around 8 p.m., according to the documents.
When they got there, a witness saw Alysha hold the child outside the hospital, “appearing to be debating whether or not to go into the hospital,” the report reads.
Medical staff told HCPD that the child needed to be taken to a pediatric intensive care unit for three days “due to the victim’s vitals.”
Michael and Alysha were released from jail on Thursday, each on a $10,000 bond.
The documents do not specify the relationship between the child and Michael and Alysha.
