The stewards take no action over the Lawson/Piastri collision.
L6 Russell within four tenths of a second of Verstappen on the long straight leading to turn 14.
Russell has drawn within DRS range of Verstappen. Red Bull told Verstappen to press and hold his overtake button in an attempt to get away from him but it doesn’t seem to have helped. Leclerc passes Bearman.
L5 The drama at the start has helped Hamilton move up from 19th to 12. Leclerc is eighth and pressuring Bearman.
L4 VSC ends. Piastri is up to sixth after Lawson’s damaged front wing collapsed. Their collision is under investigation.
Lots of contact at turn one on the first lap: Lawson hit Piastri and Bortoleto swiped Stroll and Gasly.
A group of marshals are running in the run-off area at turn one as the field arrives at the start of lap two. A Virtual Safety Car period has now been triggered, but far too late.

All drivers in the top 10 will start on mediums. As last year there is only one driver on softs, in this case Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Pierre Gasly, 10th, is the first driver on hards. Nico Hulkenberg, Franco Colapinto, Alexander Albon, Gabriel Bortoleto have also taken hards, the rest mediums.
On Carlos Sainz Jnr’s radio, he and the team are discussing the importance of avoiding the bumps on the straight – likely to minimise plank wear.
Officially the risk of rain for the race is 10%.
Mercedes replaced several part on George Russell’s steering system following the problems which developed on his car during Q3 yesterday.
Yuki Tsunoda, wo qualified 19th, will start the Las Vegas Grand Prix from the pits with a fresh power unit.
The last driver to complete a reconnaissance laps is Esteban Ocon, who has joined the back of the grid
Practice two days ago was disrupted by more problems with manhole covers, which also caused problems during the inaugural event in 2023. The track operators welded 15 of them overnight before Friday’s running and there have been no further problems since then.
There’s no indication the rain which affected the first two days of running will return during the grand prix.
The track is dry and conditions are on the cool side for a grand prix but typical for this race: air 17C, track 18C.
The pit exit has opened and drivers are heading out to do their reconnaissance laps, led by Max Verstappen. Andrea Kimi Antonelli briefly runs wide at turn 12.
