Indiana Fever teammates comment on Caitlin Clark’s WNBA All-Star nod

Caitlin Clark is set to participate in the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game. The rookie guard for the Indiana Fever earned her place in the All-Star game by receiving the highest number of fan votes to join Team WNBA.

Clark accumulated an impressive 700,735 fan votes, surpassing the next closest player by over 82,000 votes. Her teammate, forward Aliyah Boston, received the second-most fan votes.

Alongside Boston and Clark, Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell will also be part of the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game on Team WNBA, giving Indiana the most All-Star selections.

Following the Fever’s recent loss to the Las Vegas Aces, Boston expressed the significance of being named All-Stars with her teammates.

“I think it’s special. I think it just goes to show the talent that we have on this team. I mean, it’s really amazing to be able to play together as an All-Star, but also I think this is really exciting for Caitlin. Being a rookie, coming in and just having an impact the way that she does and so congrats,” Boston said.

Both Boston and Mitchell are now two-time WNBA All-Stars. Mitchell emphasized the significance of the achievement for the franchise and individual players.

“It’s a really, really big thing for our franchise, but I think more importantly, it kind of shows where we are as players and what we aspire to be individually. I think any great player, any great competitor has an All-Star somewhere down their list. We put in a lot of hard work and so it feels good to kind of see these two ladies smile about this process. And myself, together we can experience it,” Mitchell said.

Clark also expressed her excitement about the selection and the opportunity to play alongside her teammates in Phoenix.

“Yeah, we all get to be on the same team, so at least we’ll have each other. We can have some familiarity I guess. Obviously, it’s fun, it’s cool for myself to accomplish this in my rookie year, but I’m just lucky to be a part of and with these two.

“It’s big for our franchise, too. I think it just shows the talent we have and slowly just putting that together and the future is bright. Obviously, me and AB, year one and year two. Kelsey here is a little bit older, but other than that, it’s pretty exciting,” Clark said.

The 2024 WNBA All-Star Game is scheduled for Saturday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. CT on ABC. The game will feature 12-player Team WNBA against the USA Basketball Women’s National Team.

The selections for the All-Star Game were made through a combination of fan votes, WNBA player votes, and votes from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.

Boston, Clark, Dearica Hamby, and Arike Ogunbowale were automatically named to participate in the All-Star Game and assigned to Team WNBA due to their high vote counts.

Additionally, eight more players, including Kelsey Mitchell, were named to the 2024 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game roster by WNBA head coaches.
