Behind Marine Johannès’ debut and Dorka Juhász’s best game, Galatasaray finishes EuroLeague Women group play undefeated

Technically, the game did not matter in the context of the competition. Yet, Galatasaray has to feel good about their 50-point blowout win, 104-54, over Sopron in their final game of EuroLeague Women group play.

The domination not only secured the club a perfect 6-0 record, but also saw the season debut of Marine Johannès and a season-best performance from Dorka Juhász. Although Johannès’ feathery stroke was not falling, she still compiled eight points, seven assists and four rebounds—all with her familiar flourish—in her 22 minutes. Juhász scored her EuroLeague-high 22 points, going 7-for-10 on 2-pointers and 2-for-3 on 3-pointers while also grabbing five rebounds.

Fenerbahçe likewise completed group play without a loss, and in equally authoritative fashion. They snuffed out Olympiacos’ scant hopes of advancing to the second round with a 52-point win, 99-47. Six Fenerbahçe players finished in double figures, led by Kayla McBride’s 18 points, which were powered by a 4-for-8 effort from behind the arc. Emma Meesseman and Julie Allemand each tallied eight assists, while Megan Gustafson led the club with nine boards. And the rich are getting richer, as Gabby Williams is expected back in uniform for Fenerbahçe when second-round play begins.

Spar Girona, however, could not maintain their undefeated mark, falling by six points, 69-63, to Tango Bourges Basket. Ines Pitarch-Granel, a 19-year-old and 5-foot-11 guard who is eligible for the 2026 WNBA Draft, had her best EuroLeague game of the season for Bourges, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the field to finish with 12 points. Justē Jocytē, in contrast, had one of her poorest shooting games of the EuroLeague season for Girona, ending her string of efficient performances with a 2-for-12 afternoon and seven points.

Both teams, like Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe, were already in the second round. They’ll be joined by DVTK HUNTHERM and Casademont Zaragoza, the clubs that claimed the final two spots during Wednesday’s action, albeit doing so without much excitement.

DVTK backs into the second round, losing 81-58 to Valencia. But because Olympiacos also lost, DVTK earned the final second-round spot from Group C due to owning the head-to-head tiebreaker. Zaragoza at least punched their ticket with a win, although ÇBK Mersin, needing to win by seven points to advance over Zaragoza, didn’t muster much of a fight. Zaragoza captured a 30-point victory, 88-58, as Julie Vanloo’s 18 points were not enough for Mersin to remain in the competition.

The second-round groupings, Groups E and F, are now confirmed, with the competition resuming on December 10:

Group E: Galatasary Çağdaş Faktoring, Spar Girona, Beretta Famila Schio, Tango Bourges Basket, Flammes Carolo BasketGroup F: Fenerbahçe Opet, Basket Landes, Umana Reyer Venezia, Valencia Basket Club, Casademont Zaragoza, DVTK HUNTHERM

As with the first round, there will be six games in the second round, except each club will play every other club in their group once, not twice. The top two teams from Groups E and F will advance directly to the Semi-Final Play-Ins, while the third- and fourth-place clubs in the groups will meet in the Quarter-Final Play-Ins.

At the moment, it seems like Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe are on a championship crash course. Although, last year’s playoffs serve as a reminder of the unexpected outcomes that single-elimination basketball can produce, as Praha’s Semi-Final upset of Fenerbahçe opened the way for Praha to win the club’s first EuroLeague Women title in a decade.

The four teams eliminated from the competition—ÇBK Mersin, Olympiacos, Sopron and Gydina—will join the 2025-26 EuroCup Women competition as top seeds in Round 1 of their Play-Off, which begins December 11.
