Comment of the day
Stephen reckons Lando Norris’s engine mileage makes his championship lead more vulnerable than it looks:
Norris has the points lead but he is on the last of his permitted engine allocation and has been running that engine a good few races. Piastri has been doing likewise but his current engine won’t be as worn as Piastri only did half a lap in Baku before crashing and Verstappen has taken an engine penalty already. An engine failure for Norris in Qatar would put him up against it.
Norris’s current engine has had 190 miles of stress at Baku that Piastri’s PU has not had to endure. Verstappen has an engine advantage on both McLaren drivers. Were Verstappen and Norris able to finish one-two in the GP with Norris DNFing with an engine problem in the grand prix that could depending on the sprint could wipe out his points lead as well as meaning a grid penalty for Abu Dhabi which would be a big blow to LN’s title hopes.Stephen Taylor
