Tempe, AZ – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (“ITA”) is excited to share today the curation of a standalone Division II Individual Championship hosted by the ITA that will be played in the fall season, in place of the ITA Cup for the Division II level of play.

As the only NCAA Division of college tennis without an NCAA sponsored singles and doubles championship, the ITA Division II Individual National Championships will give even more student-athletes and programs an opportunity to compete for a national championship next fall.

“Division II coaches have voiced a strong desire for this type of event in recent years and we are excited to be able to deliver an enhanced national stage for their student-athletes to shine,” stated ITA CEO, David Mullins. “We are thrilled to bring this new championship to Tuscaloosa, a community that has demonstrated tremendous support for college tennis.”

Set to be hosted in partnership with Visit Tuscaloosa at the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center, athletes will be able to compete at a world-class facility which will be newly renovated headed into the 2026 calendar year. As a three year bid, teams and athletes are set to compete here in Tuscaloosa in 2026, 2027, and 2028.

“We are thrilled that Visit Tuscaloosa and the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center have been selected to host the 2026, 2027 and 2028 ITA Division II Individual National Championships,” stated Robins Bonner, Senior Sport Sales and Event Development Manager for Visit Tuscaloosa. “The recent renovations have strengthened our ability to attract and host major championship events, and we couldn’t be more excited to showcase everything that Tuscaloosa has to offer. We look forward to welcoming the student-athletes, coaches, and fans from across the country to experience our world-class facility and the hospitality our community is known for.”

Guaranteeing all competing athletes at least three matches, all ITA Division II Regional Champions and Finalists will earn a berth into the ITA Division II Individual National Championships. Criteria for the remaining at-large bids will be determined via ITA Operating Committees and will be communicated with coaches once finalized.

As both an advocate and authority for college tennis, this championship has come about after much feedback from Division II coaches to the ITA Operating Committee around more championship opportunities for student-athletes at this level of competition.

For the Division III, NAIA, and Junior College levels, the ITA Cup will still serve as a fall national championship for those levels as it has for the past 40 years. More information about the 2026 ITA Division II Individual National Championships will be released in the months to come.

About the ITA: The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) is the governing body and coaches association of college tennis, both an advocate and an authority for the sport and its members. Comprised of 1,260 colleges and universities, 20,000 student-athletes, 1,700 varsity programs, 3,000 coaches, and 1,350 college tennis officials, the ITA empowers college tennis coaches at all levels to deliver vibrant tennis programs that are vital to their college communities and transformational to their student-athletes. Follow the college tennis season on the ITA website and ITA social channels on Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and YouTube.
