Major upgrade announced to innovative ‘Motor Sport in a Box’ toolkit which enables grassroots motor sport events globallyDigital Licensing rollout on track to improve efficiency, reliability and global compatibility of driver licencingAnnouncements empower FIA’s member clubs to expand grassroots motor sport participation whilst modernising and streamlining their administrative processes

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, has announced a major package of fresh resources and tools to support the growth, development and capacity building of the Federation’s 149 sport member clubs (ASNs).

Motor Sport in a Box, a flagship initiative from the FIA to develop grassroots motor sport globally, will receive an extensive upgrade with the addition of timekeeping equipment to the toolkit. Launched in 2023, Motor Sport in a Box provides member clubs worldwide with all the equipment needed to host small-scale, low-cost motor sport events in convenient, affordable and accessible locations such as car parks.

The initiative has proven to be highly effective in staging entry level events in countries and regions where motor sport is less readily available; directly contributing towards the FIA’s mission to double motor sport participation globally. The addition of timekeeping equipment will be the most significant upgrade to the toolkit since its launch, unlocking new categories of grassroots motor sport whilst vastly improving the accuracy and efficiency of events.

The FIA has also today confirmed the next steps in the rollout of its digital licencing project which is modernising motor sport governance and providing ASNs with a unified, modern platform to simplify licence administration. The digital licencing system has been successfully trialled in Canada, Malta and Sri Lanka over the previous few months and will be rolled out to a further seven ASNs next year, supported by a new dedicated FIA digital licence team. The initiative will allow the management of licence status in real time, a dashboard to collate invaluable analytics and the launch of a dedicated app for drivers with Apple and Google Wallet compatibility.

Finally, the FIA Sport Clubs Handbook was released to member clubs as a one-stop shop to access advice and guidance on topics including safety, communications and training. The 176-page handbook will be hosted online as a dynamic document and is a major update and refresh of the previous 2017 edition. The Sport Clubs Handbook will serve as an invaluable resource particularly for new and emerging clubs as they establish, grow and develop motor sport within their nations.

The significant announcements made today at the ASN Forum during the FIA’s General Assemblies currently underway in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, reflect the FIA’s commitment to supporting each of the 149 ASNs with the highest quality support and resources based upon the latest innovation and world-leading expertise. As a member-led Federation they also reflect the FIA’s commitment to continuously improve and expand its member club offering, delivering excellence to meet the evolving and unique needs of motor sport in every region of the world.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA President, said:

“Our members are the driving force behind our mission and I am proud to strengthen our support for their work through these new initiatives.

“Across every Championship and discipline, our Members have worked tirelessly to deliver innovative projects both on and off the track. We are committed to ensuring our Members have the resources and opportunities to continue to grow and succeed.”

Valerio Iachizzi, FIA Secretary General for Sport, said:

“Our member clubs are at the heart of everything we do at the FIA and I am incredibly proud that we have launched such an extensive package of new resources to support ASNs. These initiatives are designed not only to provide practical tools and guidance but also to empower clubs to grow participation and strengthen the foundations of motor sport in their regions.”

The FIA Sport Clubs Handbook is available for ASN’s from today. Motor Sport in a Box with timekeeping equipment will be available to ASNs in 2026.
