The debut episode of HBO’s “Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants” provided a detailed glimpse into a typical day for general manager Joe Schoen.
In his third season as the Giants’ GM, 44-year-old Schoen has been involved in NFL front offices since he was 21. During his early days, he often resorted to eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches due to limited funds and time.
Wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, one of Schoen’s draft picks in 2023, shares a fondness for “PB&J” for a different reason.
“It’s challenging for me to gain weight,” Hyatt recently shared on Giants Huddle. “Some players find it easier to bulk up, but for me, it’s a struggle. I burn calories quickly, so I have to continuously eat.
“PB&J sandwiches became a staple for me as I aimed to consume a full meal to maintain my energy levels. Eating a complete meal followed by a snack like an Uncrustables or a protein shake helps me stay fueled.”
Hyatt boasts impressive speed, clocking in at 24 MPH last summer during training camp – a feat matched only by the Miami Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill.
With a height of six feet and currently weighing 185 pounds compared to 176 pounds at the NFL Combine, there’s speculation on whether Hyatt’s speed could be affected by additional weight. Despite flashes of brilliance last season, Hyatt still showed signs of inexperience with 23 catches out of 40 targets for 373 yards and zero touchdowns.
