Caitlin Clark was recently compared to Boston Celtics guard Payton Pritchard by former NBA player and current analyst Reggie Miller, and it seems the Indiana Fever star is a fan of that comparison.
After Pritchard hit a buzzer beater at the end of the first quarter against the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday, Clark reacted to the play on social media.
The comparison came during Clark’s recent appearance on NBC’s pregame show on Sunday. Miller and fellow analyst Carmelo Anthony were asked which NBA players they thought Clark resembled.
“I like Payton Pritchard from Boston,” Miller said. “The way he’s able to handle the basketball, he makes big shots when the shot clock’s running down, a lot like this young lady right here.”
The comparison caught some off guard, mainly because Pritchard is a role player while Clark is the star of her team. Anthony compared Clark to Luka Dončić, which was maybe a bit more fitting.
But Pritchard and Clark do have a handful of things in common, namely their ability to hit shots from deep range. Clark is one of the best shooters in the WNBA, and Pritchard has made halfcourt heaves at the buzzer part of his specialty.
Pritchard is also enjoying a career year for the Celtics, putting up 16.8 points, 5.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game.
Clark is coming off an injury-riddled season in which she played just 13 games, so she’ll look to have the same durability as Pritchard, who has played 80-plus games in each of the last two years.
