The WNBA is coming to Kansas City for the first time in two decades.
The Minnesota Lynx will play the Nigerian Women’s National Team in a WNBA preseason game at T-Mobile Center on Monday, April 27, at 7 p.m. The game is hosted by ProHoops Sports & Events, a sports events company out of Wichita.
Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. on the T-Mobile Center website.
The Minnesota Lynx are one of the most successful teams in the league. They have won four WNBA Championships (2011, 2013, 2015, 2017) and ended the 2025 season with the top record but lost to the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA semifinals.
The Lynx feature stars like forward Napheesa Collier, guard Kayla McBride and guards and social media stars Courtney Williams and Natisha Hiedeman. They are led by US. Women’s National Team head coach Cheryl Reeve, who has led the team since 2010.
The Nigeria national team, also known as D’Tigress, is currently ranked eighth in the FIBA World Rankings. The team reached the quarterfinals in the 2024 Olympics, becoming the first African basketball team, male or female, to qualify for the Olympic quarterfinals.
The 2026 season will be the 30th of the Women’s National Basketball Association. The league will expand from 13 to 15 teams with the addition of the Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo.
The league is also in the midst of collective bargaining agreement negotiations with the Women’s National Basketball Players Association. Both sides reached a moratorium on league business in January, leaving the upcoming season uncertain as negotiations continue.
But games are still scheduled for the league season, with Kansas City on the list to host preseason women’s basketball.
