Kentucky Women’s Tennis Finishes Non-Conference Play with Two Wins – UK Athletics

Lexington, Ky. – The Kentucky Women’s tennis team continued their doubleheader dominance at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex, sweeping Bellarmine University 4-0 in two matches on the day. This match closed out the Wildcats non-conference season, and they will dive into SEC play this Saturday with a matchup against the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville, Tenn.  

Match 1: 

In doubles play, the Wildcats take the lead on all courts starting off, with court No. 3 pair Ellie Myers and Donna Le Roux sweeping the competition and securing the first doubles win of the day. The next two courts came to a tight finish when Bellarmine started trailing back, tying the score on both courts. With a battle to the end and a tiebreaker to secure the doubles point, court No. 2 pair Marina Fuduric and Elena Molla defeat BU’s Hurley/Kollaritsch, 7-6 (5). The match on court No. 1, Zoe Hammond and Julia Zhu playing Bellarmine’s Kryslova/Parker was left unfinished.  

In singles play, the Cats continued to dominate, taking first sets across the board. The first to secure a win and get a point for the Wildcats was freshman Reese Sager who took over the court defeating Bellarmine’s Caruk 6-2, 6-2. Senior and No. 93 Zoe Hammond put on a show on court No. 1, defeating Bellarmine’s Kryslova 6-2, 6-3. Another freshman win was secured with Elena Molla who clinched the last singles point and the match for Kentucky defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-3. The remaining matches were agreed to leave unfinished with Kentucky taking on Bellarmine again a couple hours later.  

Doubles: 

Hammond/Zhu (UK) def. Kryslova/Parker (BU) UF 

Fuduric/Molla (UK) def. Hurley/Kollaritsch (BU) 7-6 (5) 

Le Roux/Myers (UK) def. Caruk/Fuste (BU), 6-0  

Order of finish: 3, 2 

Singles: 

Zoe Hammond (UK) def. Kryslova (BU), 6-2, 6-3 

Reese Sager (UK) def. Caruk (BU), 6-2, 6-2  

Elena Molla (UK) def. Parker (BU), 6-1, 6-3 

Donna Le Roux (UK) def. Hurley (BU) UF 

Marina Fuduric (UK) vs. Kollaritsch (BU) UF 

Ellie Myers (UK) vs. Fuste (BU) UF  

Order of finish: 2, 1, 3 

Match 2: 

In round two of doubles play, the Wildcats take the lead again on all three courts. The first to a victory was court No. 1 pair, Zoe Hammond and Julia Zhu who had unfinished business in their first doubles match, but this time swept Bellarmine’s Kryslova/Parker 6-0. Following soon after, the pair on court No. 2 Reese Sager and Jadue Asuncion gained their first doubles win and Kentucky’s second doubles point of the day. The match on court No. 3 with the pair Marina Fuduric and Elena Molla playing BU’s Caruk/Fuste, was left unfinished. 

In singles, the Wildcats go for their second sweep of the day, and it was a success. Sophomore Marina Fuduric led the team to its first singles point of the match defeating Bellarmine’s Kollaritsch 6-4, 6-1. Senior Ellie Myers finishes nearly at the exact same time, breaking her opponents serve for the last game to secure the match, defeating Bellarmine’s Fuste 6-3, 6-0. Junior Julia Zhu takes over the first court and hungry for a win, defeats Bellarmine’s Kryslova 6-4, 6-1, clinching the match for the Wildcats leading them to a 4-0 final and 2-0 sweep for the doubleheader.  

Doubles:  

Hammond/Zhu (UK) vs. Kryslova/Parker (BU) 6-0 

Sager/Jadue (UK) vs. Hurley/Kollaritsch (BU) 6-2 

Fuduric/Molla (UK) vs. Caruk/Fuste (BU) UF 

Order of finish: 1, 2 

Singles: 

Julia Zhu (UK) def. Kryslova (BU) 6-4, 6-1 

Reese Sager (UK) vs. Parker (BU) UF 

Asuncion Jadue (UK) vs. Caruk (BU) UF 

Donna Le Roux (UK) vs. Hurley (BU) UF 

Marina Fuduric (UK) def. Kollaritsch (BU) 6-4, 6-1 

Ellie Myers  (UK) def. Fuste (BU) 6-3, 6-0 

Order of finish: 5, 6, 1 

The Kentucky women’s tennis team aims to keep the wins rolling as they gear up for their first official conference play match against the University of Tennessee scheduled for this Saturday at 1 p.m. ET in Knoxville, TN. From there, they are scheduled for two more matches on the road before returning to the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
