University of Maine basketball’s fifth-year senior forward Adrianna Smith is one of 10 semifinalists for the prestigious Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award.

To be eligible, players must compete in one of the 25 conferences considered to be “mid-major” and America East is among the 25.

The award is presented by Her Hoop Stats and the five finalists will be announced in early March. The winner will be named around the Final Four which will be held on April 3-5.

Despite being double and triple-teamed on a regular basis, Smith currently leads America East in scoring (21.9 points per game), rebounding (10 rpg) and assists (4.4).

She is 12th in scoring among players at the 359 Division I schools, tied for 25th in rebounding and tied for 74th in assists.

At six-feet tall, she is one of the smallest players among the top 25 in rebounding, with 19 being taller than she is. And she leads the nation’s forwards/centers in assists as the 73 ahead of her are all listed as guards.

She is tied for 13th in the country in double-doubles with 14 and the Reston, Virginia native is 64th in the country in minutes played at 34.41 per game.

The tenacious and hard-working Smith is shooting 45.3%from the floor, 31.7% beyond the 3-point arc and 77.5% from the free throw line.

She also has 41 steals and 24 blocked shots.

Smith has scored in double figures in 25 of UMaine’s 26 games and has 16 games with 20 or more points and 13 with 24 or more. She has had nine games with 12 or more rebounds.

The two-time America East first team selection and America East Player of the Year in 2022-23 is currently eighth on UMaine’s all-time scoring with 1,728 points. She is fifth in rebounds with 971 and sixth in assists with 395.
