After years of record discrepancies tracked by World Boxing News, Abel Mendoza’s ledger has moved again — this time officially to 43-0.
His July 26, 2025, knockout victory in Medellín, Colombia, has now been verified and reflected on his professional record.
The bout, staged at Hotel San Fernando Plaza under the Federacion Colombiana De Boxeo, saw Mendoza stop Juvenal Herrera in the fourth round of a scheduled eight-round super lightweight contest.
For a fighter whose record has been under periodic review since 2022, the update is significant.
Mendoza Addresses Colombia Scrutiny
Colombian and Mexican events often require additional documentation when results are reviewed, particularly on smaller international cards.
In recent years, video confirmation has increasingly become standard practice when questions arise.
Mendoza told WBN his fight met that requirement.
“There was a lot of corruption in Colombia. There was a lot that was false, but mine was not one of them. I showed them proof of a live video.”
According to Mendoza, once footage was supplied, the result was reviewed and recognized.
The official record now reflects 43-0.
43-0 Official — Higher Total Claimed
While the ledger reads 43-0, Mendoza has long maintained that his actual total is higher because of previously unlisted victories in Mexico.
He has previously told WBN he believes he is either 45-0 or 46-0, depending on which bouts are ultimately documented. That could now realistically sit at 47-0.
For now, 43-0 is the recognized figure. The rest remains part of an ongoing administrative debate rather than a competitive one.
The Benchmark Is Not Static
The number carries weight beyond Mendoza’s own career.
Terence Crawford retired undefeated after reaching 42-0. Mendoza has now officially moved beyond that mark.
Floyd Mayweather’s 50-0 remains the modern benchmark for a perfect professional run. However, with Mayweather preparing for a September rematch with Manny Pacquiao, that target could extend to 51-0.
In other words, the reference point may shift before Mendoza closes the gap.
Seven fights separate him from 50. More if the benchmark moves. Fewer if his claimed wins are eventually recognized.
The math depends on which total you accept.
PBC Debut Awaiting Confirmation
Mendoza’s Premier Boxing Champions debut has yet to be formally announced after he signed for the promotional entity late last year.
‘El Zorro’ assured WBN he will provide an update once it is confirmed, as he aims to move beyond 43-0.
After years of paperwork lagging behind performances, at least one more result has caught up.
Whether the remaining claims do the same — and whether the benchmark stays at 50 — remains open.
