An East Bay high school is paying tribute to one of its star alumni.
WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu grew up in Walnut Creek and went to Miramonte High School in Orinda.
Tuesday, her alma mater voted to rename their gym in her honor. The gym is now called the Sabrina Ionescu Gymnasium.
Ionescu graduated high school a decade ago and played for the Oregon Ducks in college.
She helped lead the New York Liberty to its first WNBA championship two years ago.
School leaders call her a role model and inspiration, and the principal says they plan on hosting a ceremony to honor and welcome her when she comes back to visit the Bay Area.
