RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – University of Richmond forward Maggie Doogan is heading into the Atlantic-10 Women’s Basketball Tournament with a record-setting season behind her and WNBA scouts paying close attention.
Doogan recently scored 48 points in a triple-overtime win against Davidson, setting a single-game scoring record for Richmond and the Atlantic-10, and a season high for NCAA Division I women’s basketball.
“Three overtimes was just crazy. I’ve never played that long of a game before, but shots were falling thankfully, and my teammates were doing a really good job of finding me, and I was just able to create a lot of shots,” Doogan said.
The 6-foot-2 senior has been named Atlantic-10 Player of the Year twice and was selected to try out for the Women’s AmeriCup Team Trials last summer.
Head coach Aaron Roussell said he expects Doogan to be drafted.
“I know for sure that she’s going to be a WNBA draft choice,” Roussell said. “My side job right now is her agent to handle the calls. I bet I’ve talked with maybe every WNBA franchise to be honest with you, at least close to it.”
Roussell also said Doogan ranks among the program’s all-time greats.
“She’s a really, really good player, probably one of the best players, if not the best player in history, and one of the best players in A-10 history,” he said.
Doogan was a sophomore when the Lady Spiders won the A-10 Championship in 2024.
Now, as a senior, she said the weight of the moment is setting in.
“You know, my last A-10 tournament, my last chance to win the championship. Like it’s all kind of hitting me at once of, you know, this is my last, so I’m just really trying to take in everything,” Doogan said.
Richmond plays in the quarterfinals, taking on the winner of Game 6 at Henrico’s Sports and Events Center starting at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Doogan was recently on 12 On Your Side’s podcast It Ain’t Just Sports. Get to know her even more in the episode below:
