The 2026 NFL free agency period is underway, with players starting to move to new teams. The negotiating period – commonly called the “legal tampering period” – begins on Monday at 12 p.m. Eastern and continues through 3:59 p.m. on Wednesday. The new league year begins at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, opening the free agency signing period – and making official all the agreements made earlier in the week.
During the negotiating period, the league allows a soft open to free agency, during which teams can contact agents and begin negotiations with soon-to-be free agents. New for this season, teams are allowed to have one-hour phone or video conversations with up to five players, including their agent. Contracts may not be executed during the two days. Still, there will be plenty of rumors and reports of players agreeing to deals, with the contract officially signed sometime after the start of the new league year.
Throughout the week – and into the next few months – we will continue to keep up with the latest Miami Dolphins news, updates, rumors, and signings right here.
