LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 71 Kentucky women’s tennis (8-8, 0-7 SEC) will continue SEC play, as they hit the midway point of the conference season, with a match at home on Friday against No. 7 Texas (11-3, 6-1 SEC) and then hit the road to face No. 5 Texas A&M (14-3, 6-1 SEC).
The Wildcats are coming off two losses against top 25 opponents. Last Thursday they fell at No. 23 Florida, and then again to No. 3 Auburn last Sunday.
No. 7 Texas (11-3, 6-1 SEC) will come to the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex coming off an upset win against No. 1 Georgia in Austin. They are led by the nation’s No. 1 singles player in Carmen Herea, No. 12 Anastasia Abbagnato, and No. 71 Eszter Meri. In doubles the Longhorns have No. 41 Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo/Anastasia Abbagnato, No. 53 Salma Drugdova/Anastasia Abbagnato,No. 63 Elizabeth Ionescu/Carmen Herea, and No. 71 Elizabeth Ionescu/Christasha McNeil.
The Wildcats will visit No.5 Texas A&M (14-3, 6-1 SEC) in College Station. The Aggies are coming off a win against No. 22 South Carolina 4-0. They have ranked singles players in No. 2 Lucciana Perez, No. 31 Mia Kupres, No. 54 Ilinca Amariei and No. 96 Violeta Martinez. For doubles, Texas A&M’s roster features No. 8 Kupres/Perez and No. 75 Amariei/Martinez.
Kentucky women’s tennis is still striving for their first conference win of the season, with two huge opportunities for a dual statement of top 10 wins ahead.
