Freddie Freeman, the first baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers, has been removed from the lineup for their game against the Astros in Houston. He is going back home to support his family as his son, Maximus, is facing health challenges.
Freeman’s wife, Chelsea, shared on her Instagram story that Maximus had a health issue that required them to be in the emergency room until the early hours of the morning. Despite traveling with the team to Houston for the game on Friday, Freeman has decided to return home.
Earlier in the week, Chelsea provided details about their son’s illness. She mentioned on Instagram, “Please say a prayer for Maximus. Dr. says he developed transient synovitis from the viral infection he had All Star week. Day 3 of not being able to sit, stand or walk.”
In a subsequent post, Chelsea shared, “We ended up taking him to the ER last night. Freddie met me straight from the game. He stopped eating or drinking and was very lethargic… They ran a ton of tests & bloodwork panels that thank God they all came back negative. No infection or active virus. They hydrated him and gave him anti inflammatory medicine through IV. Took x-rays & ultrasound. Everything is consistent with transient synovitis. He still cannot bear any weight to stand or walk so we will be closely monitoring him.”
If there is no improvement in 48 hours, Chelsea mentioned that Maximus would need to return to the hospital.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated that there is no set timeline for when Freeman will rejoin the team.
