As another year comes to a close, it’s a time to reflect on the past and look forward to the future. In 2024, I experienced many significant moments in my personal, professional, and family life, as well as in my role as a Mexican. This column is dedicated to recounting what 2024 meant to me…
On August 18, I lost my beloved mother, leaving me without both parents. Now, my siblings and I are responsible for carrying on the Sulaimán Saldívar family legacy, along with our children and future grandchildren. The outpouring of love and unity from family, friends, and even strangers following my mother’s passing was a testament to the impact she had on those around her.
Throughout the year, I had the privilege of engaging in various activities and encounters that left a lasting impression on me. From visiting the Holy Father Francisco to witnessing historic boxing matches and participating in social responsibility programs, 2024 was a year filled with meaningful experiences.
One memorable moment was witnessing Tyson Fury lose his WBC world championship to Oleksander Usyk in an epic battle in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The rematch in December further solidified Usyk’s position as the UNDISPUTED champion.
From engaging with wounded soldiers in Ukraine to signing agreements for global social responsibility activations, 2024 was a year of impactful collaborations and initiatives for the World Boxing Council.
As we move forward into the new year, I am grateful for the opportunities and experiences that shaped 2024 and look forward to what lies ahead in 2025.

Boxing faces challenges in the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with only one chance left to regain its status as an Olympic sport. Affiliating with World Boxing, which has the support of the IOC, is crucial for the sport’s future on the Olympic stage.
Today’s anecdote…
Reflecting on my birthdate of December 30, 1969, I recall the unique circumstances surrounding my arrival into the world. Despite not having a typical birthday celebration due to being close to the New Year, the love and affection of my family in Ciudad Valles made the day special. Now, with social media reminders, I am reminded of the joy and connection shared with loved ones on my birthday.
