A look at how 11 former IU basketball players finished the regular season

Several former IU basketball players are competing across the country in the 2025-26 season. Three former Hoosiers are on teams that reached the 2026 NCAA tournament.

Here’s an updated look at how every former scholarship player for the Hoosiers is performing at the end of the regular season:

Kaleb Banks, DePaulTeam record and KenPom rank: 16-16, No. 102

The 6-foot-8 Banks, a senior, started 11 of the 31 games he appeared in for the Blue Demons.

Banks averaged 5.6 points, 2.5 rebounds and shot 45.2 percent from the field in 16.2 minutes per game.

DePaul could be among the eight teams to play in the Crown, a postseason tournament set to be held early next month in Las Vegas. If not, Banks has concluded his career.

Kanaan Carlyle, Florida AtlanticTeam record and KenPom rank: 18-15, No. 129

Carlyle earned honorable mention honors for All-Conference in the American for his junior season.

He started 27 of the 28 games he appeared in for the Owls and averaged 14.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 31.2 minutes per game.

Carlyle shot 40.9 percent from the field, 32.4 percent on 3-pointers and 85.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Gabe Cupps, Ohio StateTeam record and KenPom rank: 21-12, No. 26

Cupps will get his first opportunity to play in the NCAA tournament as Ohio State earned a No. 8 seed in March Madness. The Buckeyes will play TCU on Thursday in Greenville, South Carolina.

The former Ohio Mr. Basketball has appeared in 32 games for the Buckeyes, averaging 1.6 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 12.5 minutes per game.

Logan Duncomb, WinthropTeam record and KenPom rank: 23-11, No. 155

Duncomb came up short in his bid for an NCAA tournament berth as Winthrop fell to High Point in the Big South tournament final.

The 6-foot-10 Duncomb finished his college career on a high note, averaging 18.3 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 24.3 minutes per game.

Duncomb was named Big South player of the year.

CJ Gunn, DePaulTeam record and KenPom rank: 16-16, No. 102

The 6-foot-7 guard, an Indianapolis native, averaged 13.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists for the Blue Demons.

Gunn started 23 of the team’s 32 games and shot 32.7 percent on 3s. He could play in the Crown next month in Las Vegas if DePaul is one of the Big East programs that earns a bid.

Dallas James, Morgan StateTeam record and KenPom rank: 14-16, No. 353

James, who spent one season at IU but never played, finished his career at Morgan State.

The 7-foot-1 center averaged 1.6 points and 1.5 rebounds in 6.4 minutes per game, making nine starts.

Mackenzie Mgbako, Texas A&MTeam record and KenPom rank: 21-11, No. 39

Mgbako (foot injury) appeared in only seven games this season for the Aggies, who are in the 2026 NCAA tournament under first-year coach Bucky McMillan.

Texas A&M will play Saint Mary’s on Thursday in Oklahoma City.

Assuming Mgbako utilizes a medical redshirt, he will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Jakai Newton, Georgia StateTeam record and KenPom rank: 10-22, No. 310

The 6-foot-4 Newton missed the final seven games for Georgia State, which finished just 7-11 in the Sun Belt Conference.

Newton played in 21 games this season at Georgia State, averaging 7.2 points and 3.6 rebounds in 17 minutes per game.

Malik Reneau, Miami (FL)Team record and KenPom rank: 25-8, No. 31

Reneau, a first-team All-ACC honoree this season, will play in the NCAA tournament for the second time in his career.

Led by first-year coach Jai Lucas, Miami will play Missouri on Friday in Saint Louis.

Reneau is averaging 18.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and two assists in 28.5 minutes per game.

Myles Rice, MarylandTeam record and KenPom rank: 12-21, No. 120

Rice appeared in only 17 games this season for the Terps due to various injuries.

He averaged 5.6 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 16.5 minutes per game.

Bryson Tucker, WashingtonTeam record and KenPom rank: 16-17, No. 53

The 6-foot-7 Tucker missed the final five games, including a pair of Big Ten tournament games, for the Huskies.

Washington may be selected to play the Crown next month in Las Vegas.

In 21 games, Tucker averaged 5.7 points and 3.9 rebounds in 22 minutes per game.
