In Chicago on October 17, 2021, Skylar Diggins-Smith left the arena disappointed after the WNBA Finals. Now a member of the Seattle Storm, she is back in the playoffs against the Las Vegas Aces.
After a stint with the Phoenix Mercury, Diggins-Smith signed with Seattle. The Storm also acquired Nneka Ogwumike, adding veteran talent to the team led by Jewell Loyd.
Loyd had an outstanding season in 2023, but the Storm struggled without Breanna Stewart and Sue Bird, finishing 11-29 and missing the playoffs.
Seattle’s offseason acquisitions and the return of Gabby Williams improved their performance in 2024. Diggins-Smith had a solid season, and the Storm finished with a 25-15 record, back in the playoffs after missing out last year.
Facing the Aces in the postseason, Seattle aims to make up for their 2022 elimination by Las Vegas. Diggins-Smith’s return to the playoffs is an opportunity to win her first championship.
Diggins-Smith’s last postseason appearance in 2021 was impressive, and in the 2021 Finals, she showcased her talent. Against the Aces, she needs to elevate her performance to help Seattle succeed.
Improving three-point shooting will be crucial for the Storm, as they face a strong Aces team led by A’ja Wilson. Diggins-Smith’s contribution will be vital in the series.
Diggins-Smith’s successful comeback season with Seattle earned her the Comeback Player of the Year award. She is determined to add a WNBA championship to her impressive career achievements.
