Is it possible for one of the greatest quarterback-receiver partnerships in NFL history to reunite?
During the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe, Nev. on Thursday, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers hinted at the idea of teaming up with Davante Adams once again.
“I love Davante. Can’t wait to play with him,” Rodgers mentioned between holes, pausing for a moment before adding “again”.
Rodgers and Adams were a force to be reckoned with during their eight years playing together from 2014-2021 in Green Bay, accumulating 12 Pro Bowl appearances and five All-Pro selections.
Throughout this period, Adams ranked fifth among NFL players for receptions with 669, and sixth for yards with 8,121.
The duo from California was especially unstoppable in their final two seasons with the Packers.
From 2020-2021, Rodgers and Adams both received First Team All-Pro honors twice, with Rodgers securing consecutive MVP awards and Adams achieving two straight seasons with 115 or more catches, 1,374 or more yards, and 11 or more touchdowns.
Yet, despite their exceptional talent, Green Bay did not reach a Super Bowl during their time together.
In March 2022, the Packers decided to trade Adams to the Raiders in exchange for first- and second-round picks that turned into linebacker Quay Walker and receiver Christian Watson.
As a 31-year-old wide receiver, Adams has continued to excel in Las Vegas over the past two seasons, recording 203 catches for 2,660 yards and 22 touchdowns in 34 games despite playing with subpar quarterbacks.
While there have been speculations about Adams potentially leaving Vegas, he has stated his commitment to the team.
“I’m a Raider, and he knows that,” Adams mentioned in reference to Rodgers. “Obviously, we can reminisce about the past and discuss potential scenarios.”
Until any changes are made by the Raiders, Adams, or Rodgers, the idea of these two future Hall of Famers reuniting remains a distant dream.
Adams’ contract, which is a five-year deal worth $140 million, is set to expire after the 2026 season, with the possibility of a trade becoming more feasible as his dead-cap figure drops from $40.4 million to $15.7 million after this year.
Meanwhile, Rodgers is scheduled to become a free agent in 2025 at the age of 40 and seems to be taking a year-by-year approach to his career.
