Aaron Rodgers, known as the Hail Mary King, once again displayed his skill on Monday night at the Meadowlands.
Making his debut as the Jets quarterback, Rodgers executed his first Hail Mary at the end of the first half against the Bills.
With just eight seconds left in the half and the Jets trailing 20-10 after a recent Bills touchdown, they had the ball on their own 48-yard line.
After evading defenders in the pocket, Rodgers launched a pass into the north end zone of MetLife Stadium. Allen Lazard, Rodgers’ former receiver in Green Bay, leaped above five Buffalo defenders to secure the ball amidst a crowd of players.
Although the ball was briefly jarred from Lazard’s hands by a Bills defender, fans were relieved to see the call on the field was a touchdown.
Lazard secured the ball, landed, and then had it knocked out of his hands, resulting in a 52-yard completion and a touchdown.
Despite being surrounded by three Bills players during his jump, Lazard managed to come down with the ball before anyone else.
This was Rodgers’ fourth successful Hail Mary, giving the Jets momentum as they entered halftime, only trailing 20-17.
