INDIANAPOLIS — A’ja Wilson made history in the WNBA on Wednesday night by breaking the single-season scoring record. She achieved this milestone by scoring her 940th and 941st points on a jumper just before halftime in the Las Vegas Aces’ game against the Indiana Fever.
Wilson surpassed the previous record of 939 points set by Jewell Loyd in 2023 when she made a jumper from the free throw line with 26.4 seconds remaining in the second quarter. The Aces’ star, who is a two-time league MVP, entered the game averaging 27.3 points and 11.9 rebounds.
By the end of the first half, Wilson had accumulated 12 points and eight rebounds. She had missed the team’s previous game due to an ankle injury sustained in the game against Connecticut.
The Aces have four more games left in the season, including a rematch against the Fever on Friday night. Wilson’s remarkable achievement was made possible with the support of her team and fans.
