In seven years in the WNBA, Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson has achieved a remarkable record. She has earned two MVP awards, two championships, and has made six All-Star appearances. This is in addition to her four All-America accolades at South Carolina and three gold medals in FIBA play.
What sets her apart is her constant pursuit of greatness. In a recent interview with Megan Armstrong for Uproxx, Wilson shared how a quote from Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant has been motivating her this season.
Wilson revealed, “It’s actually my phone’s screensaver. Kobe said, ‘Rest at the end, not in the middle.’ And that is something that I really approached this year with.”
Bryant adopted this mantra from his high school English teacher and shared it during his acceptance speech for an Icon Award at the ESPYs in 2016.
With the Aces boasting a 16-8 record in 2024 and the United States gearing up for the Olympics, Wilson shows no signs of slowing down.
Wilson emphasized, “I just keep telling myself, ‘Rest at the end, not in the middle.’ I just keep playing and pushing through, trying to break down barriers for my teammates. That’s what motivates me to play at this level, and I’m thoroughly enjoying every moment of it.”
