American tennis is having a successful fortnight in Paris, as the United States boasts eight representatives in the singles fourth round at Roland Garros 2025, a feat not seen in four decades.

After 40 years, 8 Americans reach Roland Garros fourth round

Just like back in 1985, five American women and three American men have powered their way through the demanding red clay to reach the tournament’s second week. Leading the charge is Coco Gauff, the 2022 Roland Garros finalist. The strong women’s contingent also includes Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys, Amanda Anisimova, and Hailey Baptiste, who is making her deepest Grand Slam run to date. On the men’s side, Tommy Paul, Ben Shelton, and Frances Tiafoe have advanced into the fourth round.

Reflecting on history, the last time the U.S. had such a dominant presence at Roland Garros was four decades ago, when legends like Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert, Bonnie Gadusek, Terry Phelps, Debbie Spence, John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, and Aaron Krickstein all reached the fourth round.

Looking ahead, the competition remains fierce. Amanda Anisimova is set to face the powerful world number one Aryna Sabalenka this Sunday. On Monday, Madison Keys and Hailey Baptiste will battle in an all-American showdown, Jessica Pegula takes on France’s Lois Boisson, while Coco Gauff will meet Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova.

When it comes to American men, all three will be in action on Sunday, as Shelton takes on Carlos Alcaraz, Paul faces Alexei Popyrin, and Tiafoe goes up against Daniel Altmaier.
