The wait is finally over, as Age of Darkness: Final Stand, one of the hottest upcoming RTS games of 2025, has just released its 1.0 update on Steam, marking an end to over three years in early access. Its main new feature? Co-op multiplayer to stand together against the forces of evil.
In many ways, this survival-oriented RTS game reminds us of renowned releases like They Are Billions, but PlaySide’s take on the formula is much more committed to its dark fantasy setting and unique heroes as a key element of the relentless gameplay loop. During its lengthy but fruitful early access period, feedback has been quite positive, so expectations for the 1.0 launch were unsurprisingly high.
Before we break down all the details on what you can expect from its full release, which will be selling at a massive 65% discount for a limited time only, make sure to watch the launch teaser released back in December below:
As mentioned before, the full release introduces the long-awaited multiplayer mode that allows players to band together and try to survive an apocalypse full of Nightmares that are powered by ‘SwarmTech’ (thousands of enemies rendered on the screen at the same time). Moreover, the fully-voiced single-player campaign, which is ten chapters long, is now finished and ready to be beaten from start to finish. If you’d like to face endless (at least until you perish) waves of enemies on your own, don’t worry, as there’s also a solo survival mode included in the beefy package.
Another surprising feature is the inclusion of three different factions – The Order, Rebellion, and Volatists – each with markedly different play styles, bonuses, and regular units. On top of those, heroes, a “dynamic day & night cycle,” and roguelite elements keep things fresh run after run. The mechanics and systems run deeper, making Age of Darkness: Final Stand one of the most compelling RTS releases in recent memory. Get ready for a stressful time with this one, though.
Age of Darkness: Final Stand is now available on PC via Steam.
