Britain’s Lawrence Okolie is set to defend his WBC Bridgerweight title against southpaw Kevin Lerena, as confirmed by the sanctioning body.
In May, Okolie reclaimed his form by defeating Lukasz Rozanski in one round to win the belt. With trainer Joe Gallagher in his corner, Okolie dominated the inactive Rozanski and secured the victory easily.
After losing his unbeaten record and WBO cruiserweight title to Chris Billam-Smith last year, Okolie was eager to return to the ring and now looks set to face Lerena next.
Lerena, the mandatory challenger for the WBC Bridgerweight title, will face British opposition again after his loss to Daniel Dubois. Despite giving Dubois a tough fight, Lerena ultimately lost and has since had wins over Ryad Merhy and Senad Gashi.
After a tough fight against Justis Huni in Saudi Arabia, where he lost but showed great courage despite personal tragedy, Lerena now seems ready to face Okolie in the near future.
