Since the Wings moved to Dallas in 2016, the organization has made 18 first-round draft picks. The Wings scored when they selected All-Star guard Arike Ogunbowale with the fifth overall pick in the 2019 draft. In 2021, they used the No. 1 pick on Texas star Charli Collier, who was waived after two seasons with the team.
Gifted with the No. 1 pick in Monday’s 2025 WNBA draft, the Wings will presumably select UConn phenom Paige Bueckers, a potential gamechanger for the organization.
Take a look at some of the Wings’ noteworthy first-round picks over the last decade.
Allisha Gray, 2017 (1st round, 4th pick overall)
The WNBA Rookie of the Year in 2017, Gray averaged 13 points per game for the Wings during her inaugural WNBA season. Dallas finished 16-18 that year, losing to Washington in the first round of the WNBA playoffs. The South Carolina alum remained with the Wings through the 2022 season.
Tyasha Harris, 2020 (1st round, 7th pick overall)
Harris spent three seasons with the Wings before being traded in 2023 to the Connecticut Sun. She was traded back to Dallas in 2025 after starting for the Sun in 38 games and averaging a career-high 10.5 points, 1.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals per contest.
Satou Sabally, 2020 (1st round, 2nd pick overall)
Traded to the Phoenix Mercury in January, Sabally spent five seasons in Dallas. She was the league’s Most Improved Player in 2023 and picked up All-Rookie honors in 2020. The Oregon alum averaged a career-high 18.6 points and 8.1 rebounds in 2023 and was sidelined with a shoulder injury for the first 25 games of the 2024 season.
