A’ja Wilson reacted to the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles along with other WNBA stars. The Las Vegas Aces superstar shared an aerial image of the city on fire on her Instagram stories, adding a prayers up emoji.
The image gives a glimpse of the destruction in LA, with over 100,000 people reportedly displaced.
Due to the ongoing danger in South California, the local sports teams have had to adjust their game schedules. The LA Rams’ playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings was relocated to Arizona, and the LA Lakers had to postpone their home game.
Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier also expressed sadness over the fires, while in the NBA, figures like Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, Lakers HC JJ Redick, and Kawhi Leonard were also affected by the wildfires.
A’ja Wilson chooses rest over Unrivaled tournament
Prior to the start of the Unrivaled 3×3 tournament, there was talk about Aces star A’ja Wilson sitting out. The 3x WNBA MVP decided to prioritize rest during the offseason.
“A’ja just, honestly, she likes to rest her body, she doesn’t want to play year-round,” said a source close to Wilson. “And she’s an outlier of where, just on pure basketball, it’s a 3-on-3 league, it’s not a 5-on-5 league. So that’s one thing. But she’s really busy in the offseason. It just was not a great fit for her.”
Wilson had a busy 2024 season, balancing her commitments with the Aces and Team USA at the Olympics. Despite winning gold in Paris, the Aces were eliminated in the playoffs by the New York Liberty. Wilson’s impressive stats earned her a third MVP in five seasons, and she is now focused on leading the Aces to another championship.
