The world watched in astonishment as Kyle Kuzma entered Capital One Arena sporting a hilariously oversized pink sweater, which dwarfed his 6’9 frame. This memorable event took place three years ago. Besides being an NBA Champion, Kuz has gained recognition as a fashion icon due to his distinctive tunnel outfits. Sadly, he has decided to discontinue this widely popular practice starting this season. And no one understands his choice better than A’ja Wilson.
In a recent interview with Vogue, Kuzma disclosed his retirement from tunnel fits. “I don’t want to belong to a community where one has to showcase outfits,” remarked the Wizards star. This decision was evident in the season opener against the Celtics when Kuz sported a simple all-grey sweatsuit. He intends to maintain this look throughout the season.

A’ja resonated with his decision, sharing the post on her Instagram story and commenting, “It be like that sometimes” with a shrug emoji. Similar to Kuz, the pre-game tunnel outfits of the WNBA star have also gained popularity over the years. However, earlier this year, she opted for a plain white tee and black shorts for many games. Explaining her choice, Wilson stated, “I have to feel like dressing up. Currently, I don’t feel the urge to dress up. My primary focus now is winning.”
And she achieved just that. Concluding the season with her best career statistics in nearly all aspects, the Aces star clinched her third MVP award. Could Kuzma be aiming for a similar result by focusing solely on his game after relinquishing his tunnel fits?

Although his fans will miss it, Kuzma has decided to tone down his outfits, stating, “I’m stepping back from all of that.” He attributed his previous routine to youth and experimentation, “I can vouch that as a younger player, the urge to wear something different each time is strong. We often fall into the trap of constantly changing our attire to impress or stand out.”
Now a seasoned player in his eighth season, Kuzma has outgrown that phase, reflecting on it differently, “Now we buy clothes just to impress or stand out. It’s absurd.” It seems unlikely that he will revive his tunnel fits anytime soon. However, considering his love for fashion and passion, he may bring it back one day. A’ja recently did the same by wearing Sergio Hudson and Smash shoes during the playoffs, looking stunning as always. So, never say never.
