Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson is one of the most accomplished athletes on the planet, and she wants everyone to know that no one can take the shine off her accomplishments, not even Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark.

Wilson, a four-time WNBA MVP and three-time champion, is coming off one of the greatest years in her golden career. She led her Aces to a WNBA championship, where she was once again named Finals MVP, and was named TIME’s Athlete of the Year.

During an interview for the award with TIME’s Sean Gregory, she was asked about all the noise about Clark, a rising star in her own right in the women’s game, not being selected to the United States women’s national team for the most recent Olympics in Paris.

The United States team went on to sweep to the gold medal, with Wilson as captaining the team and winning tournament MVP. She touched on the Clark drama, disliking the attention it took away from her teammates’ accomplishments.

“It wasn’t a hit at me, because I’m going to do me regardless,” Wilson said. “I’m going to win this MVP, I’ll win a gold medal, y’all can’t shake my résumé. It was more so, let’s not lose the recipe. Let’s not lose the history. It was erased for a minute. And I don’t like that. Because we have tons of women that have been through the grimiest of grimy things to get the league where it is today.”

Clark missed the second half of the 2025 WNBA season due to multiple injuries, primarily a right groin strain that hampered the former Iowa star.

Wilson continued to talk about how the WNBA’s success today isn’t because of Clark or any one woman, as she gave credit to the trailblazers before her who helped the league survive when times were at their lowest.

“The biggest thing for us, and why I was so happy, is that we continue to rise to the occasion,” she told TIME. “This was just a matter of time for us to really bloom and blossom. Because we have been invested in each other and our craft for a very long time.
