Wilson showcased her skills by shooting 13-of-23 from the field and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, along with contributing five blocks and three steals. Despite her impressive performance, standout games are becoming routine for the two-time MVP.
Following her game on Friday, Wilson has achieved double-doubles in four consecutive games and has averaged 27.6 points, 13.8 rebounds, and four blocks in her last five matches.
Wilson currently leads the WNBA in scoring with 26.9 points per game and blocks with 2.7 per game, while also ranking second in rebounds with 11.3 per game. As the regular season passes its midpoint, the 27-year-old is in a strong position to secure her third league MVP title.
According to FanDuel, Wilson is heavily favored to win the MVP award at -2200 odds. If she achieves this, she will join the ranks of Sheryl Swoopes (2005, 2002, 2000), Lisa Leslie (2006, 2004, 2001), and Lauren Jackson (2010, 2007, 2003) as the only players in WNBA history to win the award three times.
Although being the top player in the league is an accomplishment, it is not Wilson’s ultimate goal. In June, she expressed tearfully why this is so important to her.
“I get y’all saying ‘best player in the world,’ that’s great, it looks great,” Wilson said via Paloma Villicana of Fox 5. “I want to be the best person, I want to be the best teammate because that’s how I get the best out of my team.”
Thanks to Wilson’s leadership and stellar performance, the Aces are currently the hottest team in the WNBA with nine wins in their last ten games. With their recent victory, they have improved to a 15-7 record, just trailing the first-place New York Liberty (19-4) by 3.5 games.
