Is there a chance that Teoscar Hernández, a free agent outfielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers, could return to the American League East this offseason? Reports suggest that the Boston Red Sox are interested in New York Yankees star Juan Soto, but if Soto signs elsewhere, the Red Sox could target Hernández, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
“If Juan Soto goes somewhere else, get ready to hear a lot of talk about Teoscar and the Boston Red Sox,” Morosi mentioned on MLB Network.
According to Morosi, the Red Sox and the Dodgers are the frontrunners to sign Hernández, with the Baltimore Orioles also being a potential landing spot. Hernández previously played in the AL East with the Toronto Blue Jays from 2017-22.
Hernández is currently a free agent after taking a one-year, $23 million contract with the Dodgers last January instead of a multi-year deal. He has expressed his desire to stay with the Dodgers long-term after a successful 2024 season.
“My hopes are really high,” Hernández said about re-signing with the Dodgers. “The Dodgers are the priority, and I will do everything I can to return.”
At the MLB GM Meetings, Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes mentioned plans to talk with Hernández and his representatives soon.
If an extension with the Dodgers is not reached, Hernández is expected to attract interest from multiple teams. Coming off a career year with 33 home runs, Hernández played a crucial role in the Dodgers’ World Series win. His impressive stats in 2024 included a .272 batting average, .339 on-base percentage, and 33 home runs with 99 RBIs. He also contributed three home runs and 12 RBIs in the postseason, solidifying his value to the team.
