ATLANTA, GA. – After three days of competition, the Alabama A&M women’s and Tennessee State University men’s tennis teams were crowned the tournament champions this weekend at the 23rd annual HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) National Tennis Championships.
Coming in at the top spot on the women’s side, Alabama A&M captured first place with 84 points. Hampton University claimed second with 73 points and North Carolina Central University finished third with 57 points.
On the men’s side, Tennessee State, who captured the title at last year’s event, tied for first place with Alabama State with a total of 87 points. Looking at the head-to-head scores between the teams, the Tigers narrowly secured the win, edging ahead of the Hornets 3-2. Not far behind in third place was North Carolina Central with 82.

The HBCU National Tennis Championship has always stood for providing schools with the opportunity to compete in a tournament during the fall to allow players to meet, compete, and be crowned National Champions at the end of the tournament, both individually and as teams.
The HBCU National Tennis Championship is open to HBCU schools interested in participating. Every year, the HBCU has over 15 collegiate institutions (over 30 men’s and women’s tennis programs) with close to 250 players competing in slated events, for both singles and doubles.
