Volkanovski vs. Lopes took place April 12 at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Fla. Alexander Volkanovski (26-4) and Diego Lopes (26-6) squared off in the main event clash. The fight aired live on pay-per-view on ESPN+.

Round 1
The third man in the cage for the main event is Marc Goddard.
Volkanovski looking speedy as ever and distinctly trim. He’s initiating the offense with snappy leg kicks. They clash with Volkanovski landing a hard left hand, but Lopes backing him up with an accurate right. Volkanovski moves in and Lopes hits him with a few body shots for his troubles.
Volkanovski forces another exchange and he cracks Lopes with a right over the top. He’s staying out of Lopes’ range. Volkanovski moves in and hurts Lopes with a left hand. The former champ is in championship form so far.
Takedown attempt by Volkanovski,he gets Lopes to the fence and he’s leaning on him. Volkanovski scores with a knee as Lopes works to stand. Bullying effort from Volkanovski right now. Down on the ground, Volkanovski rains down punches.

Round 2
Lopes coming out aggressive, but looks hesitant to engage. Volkanovski leading the dance here even as he backs up and circles. Double jab by Volkanovski. Leg kick by Volkanovski, Lopes answers with a straight left.
Low kick from Volkanovski, but Lopes tags Volkanovski again as he circles out of danger. Lopes stuffs a takedown. Volkanovski with a couple of inside leg kicks. Right hand connects for Volkanovski. Lopes having difficulty navigating that jab.
Lopes with two jabs of his own. He needs more right now, though. Volkanovski with a heavy right hand that catches Lopes and sends him stumbling to the cage. Volkanovski in for a takedown, Lopes defending well and he pushes Volkanovski off.
Volkanovski kicks the leg and Lopes firs a 1-2, but can’t follow up. Sneaky right from Volkanovski gets through. They exchange punches. Lopes motioning for Volkanovski to bring it on. Volkanovski with a counter left, but Lopes catches him with a hard right just as the round ends and that looked like a knockdown. Volkanovski angry with himself as he goes back to his corner.

Round 3
Let’s see if Volkanovski’s chin recovered between rounds.
Volkanovski with a jab, he has Lopes swinging wild. You have to think Lopes is eager to turn this into a scrap after scoring that knockdown. Jab from Lopes. Volkanovski rips the inside of Lopes’ lead leg. His right hand comes out fast and pops Lopes’ head back.
Lopes coming forward and taking damage as Volkanovski tactically retreats. Right hand from Volkanovski scores, but Lopes catches him with a counter. Lopes looking to muck this fight up.
Volkanovski staying busy with his footwork. He catches Lopes with his right hand as Lopes advances. Counter right by Volkanovski. Glancing body kick by Lopes. Volkanovski with a right hand, then a jab. Quick head kick from Lopes, but Volkanovski takes it.

Round 4
Volkanovski with fast hands right out of the gate. He’s using the jab smartly. Jab from Volkanovski and Lopes isn’t doing much to close the distance right now. Lopes aggressive, but that Volkanovski counter right slows Lopes again.
Lopes advances with a right uppercut. He’s still avoiding takedown attempts, but it seems like Volkanovski is just using those to break his rhythm. Lopes gets clipped again as he lunges in. Right hand from Lopes hurt Volkanovski, could be a cut over his eye. Lopes coming forward, but Volkanovski isn’t just retreating, he’s firing back. Tense!
With 90 seconds remaining, the pace calms down. Both fighters perhaps hesitant to make a mistake. Volkanovski lets the right hand fly and scores. Even with the cut and some good action from Lopes, Volkanovski might have edged that one out.
Replay shows Lopes’ glove just sliding right across Volkanovski’s eyelid. Owwwww.

Round 5
There’s that counter right from Volkanovski once more. He has Lopes scouted, but when Lopes starts going nuts, that’s when Volkanovski has been caught. Right hand from Volkanovski and Lopes is still searching for an answer. There’s a left hand by Lopes. He’s getting his wish, Volkanovski is trading with him, it’s just frequently going in Volkanovski’s favor. Volkanovski sets up his right hand with a 1-2 and Lopes just absorbs all of it. Both fighters showing their resilience and toughness.
Volkanovski looks to secure a takedown, Lopes isn’t having it. Jab from Volkanovski as Lopes marches forward with two minutes remaining. Lopes taking Volkanovski’s jabs, beckoning for Volkanovski to throw down with him. Volkanovski’s fundamentals have just been tough to beat tonight.
