Fernando Alonso was seen inspecting Oscar Piastri’s McLaren in parc fermé after the Dutch Grand Prix, getting a close look at the floor and diffuser of the car. The Aston Martin driver was caught on his onboard camera, clearly trying to gain insight into the inner workings of the MCL38, which is currently dominating F1.
Alonso didn’t just quickly glance at the car, he crouched down and thoroughly examined the McLaren’s aero elements. He later explained that this examination was part of a plan for Aston Martin to catch up in the competitive world of Formula 1.
He praised McLaren’s engineering advances, saying, “You always try to take inspiration from the cars that are winning, so we have a lot to learn from them.” This shows how seriously Aston Martin is taking McLaren’s success.
Lando Norris’s recent win at Zandvoort highlighted McLaren’s performance, with significant upgrades to various components of the car. Alonso focused heavily on the floor of the car, a crucial area for creating downforce under the current regulations.
Alonso’s recent performances have shown improvement, but he is still facing challenges in the highly competitive field of F1. With a focus on understanding the car and gathering data for next year’s project, Aston Martin is looking towards the future.
