Amanda Nunes is planning a return to MMA.
Considering “Lioness” retired as two-division champion, she’ll have the ability to walk right into a bantamweight showdown against newly-crowned titleholder Kayla Harrison, who made quick work of Julianna Pena to secure the strap in the UFC 316 co-main event last weekend inside Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Watch the highlights of her dominant performance here.
The 37 year-old Nunes (23-5) is currently the +145 underdog against -170 for the 35 year-old Harrison (19-1), according to BetOnline.ag. The Brazilian hasn’t competed since knocking around Irene Aldana back in June 2023 and probably would have fought Harrison already had this shocking turn of events not happened.
That’s not all.
Merab Dvalishvili (20-4) disposed of Sean O’Malley for the second time atop the UFC 316 pay-per-view (PPV) card and will likely move on to defend his bantamweight title against No. 4-ranked contender Cory Sandhagen (18-5). Not surprisingly, the 34 year-old “Machine” is currently the -400 betting favorite against +330 for the 33 year-old “Sandman.”
Expect those numbers to fluctuate (in both directions) as we get closer to fight night.
It’s important to note that both Nunes vs. Harrison and Dvalishvili vs. Sandhagen are expected in the near future, but not official at this time. Hopefully matchmakers can have these title fights signed within the next few weeks, if not sooner. That likely depends on the health and recovery of the UFC 316 combatants.
