Sports analyst Rachel DeMita expressed her thoughts on Wednesday regarding controversial remarks made by American influencer Charleston White about the WNBA and one of its star players Angel Reese.
DeMita strongly criticized White’s controversial statements sexualizing women basketball players in Jeff Teague’s “Club 520 Podcast.”
She called out White’s comments and urged former NBA player Teague to be cautious when airing such remarks, as they could have a negative impact on the growing sport.
“I do understand why they had someone like Charleston White, because some people actually think he is funny, but to have him go on to these rants about the WNBA,” she said.
“Some people think it is hilarious, it’s not my kind of comedy. I think it’s gross, I thought it was inappropriate and I do think that for Jeff Teague …they do have to be more careful when they have certain guests on,” DeMita said on her YouTube channel.
While Teague did not address White’s comments during the show, DeMita called him out for not intervening when the situation arose.
“Jeff Teague did not chime in on the conversation, and he also did not actively shut it down. I don’t know why they just did not cut that part out,” she added.
DeMita urged Teague to be more mindful when producing shows with controversial personalities like White.
White’s comments included suggesting Reese to go to OnlyFans and recalling a viral moment of Reese with NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, where he commented on the Chicago Sky forward playing with “little shorts” on the court.
Jeff Teague addresses Angel Reese after podcast controversy
Following the podcast controversy involving Charleston White, Jeff Teague addressed the situation and clarified their relationship with Reese.
Teague emphasized that Reese is like a little sibling to them, as they are both podcasters and basketball players.
“We had great times with Angel Reese… She’s cool people. We don’t even look at her like that. We see her as a little sister, a little homie,” Teague said in the following episode after White’s statements.
Teague acknowledged that the remarks were inappropriate but explained that because it was live on their channel, it did not undergo extensive editing to prevent its airing.
Reese has emerged as one of the most prominent stars in the WNBA, finishing second in the Rookie of the Year voting in 2024, behind Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark. She also became an All-Star but was unable to lead her team to the playoffs.
