Reese is now solidifying her spot in the Rookie of the Year conversation by becoming the first rookie in WNBA history to earn the WNBA Player of the Week honor.

Reese received this honor for the Eastern Conference after averaging 16.8 points per game, 14.0 rebounds per game, and 1.2 assists per game. She joins reigning MVP A’Ja Wilson from the Western Conference as Players of the Week, with Wilson averaging 25.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.

As per the official WNBA Twitter/X page, Angel Reese is the first rookie this season to receive the Player of the Week honor. Alongside her march towards the record of the most consecutive double-doubles in a single season, she averaged 16.8 points, 14.0 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game through Week 7.

Reese’s outstanding performance helped the Sky achieve a 2-1 record from July 2-7. In their game against the Atlanta Dream on July 2, Reese contributed 12 points, 19 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks, leading the Sky to an 85-77 victory.

In their game against the Seattle Storm on July 5, Reese contributed 27 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks, helping the Sky win with a final score of 88-84.

The Sky faced the Storm again on July 7, this time resulting in a victory for the Storm with a final score of 84-71. Despite the loss, Reese gathered 17 points, 14 rebounds, four steals, and one block.

On Sunday, Reese marked her 13th consecutive double-double, setting a new record. She has now surpassed Parker’s record of 12 between the 2009 and 2010 seasons in just one season. Reese still has several games left on the schedule for 2024, which could see her add more double-doubles to her impressive streak.

The Sky will next face the Dream on July 10, where Reese will aim to continue her dominant performance. In their previous match on July 2, Reese achieved a career-high of 19 rebounds. Even though the Dream may adjust their tactics, Reese’s exceptional skills could still lead her to secure 14 consecutive double-doubles.
