Angel Reese made history in the WNBA on Sunday by breaking the single-season rebounding record. She achieved her 24th double-double in the Sky’s 79-74 loss to Minnesota. Reese admitted that she was not aware of the record, which was previously held by Sylvia Fowles. Fowles remains the WNBA’s all-time rebounding leader with 4,006 rebounds in 408 regular-season games.
Reese ended the game with 19 rebounds, bringing her total to 418 rebounds in 32 games.
“When I entered the WNBA, I had confidence in my ability to grab rebounds,” Reese said. “Both offensive and defensive rebounds have always been my strengths. I believed that my skills would immediately translate to this level of play.
“Some people assume I excel in rebounding because I get my own misses or because I am the tallest player on the court, which is not the case. It’s about putting in the effort, being physical, and doing the dirty work that others may shy away from. Defense and rebounding are crucial in winning championships, and I have proven that by winning championships at every level with this mindset.”
