Angel Reese is rooting for Chennedy Carter to join her in Phoenix this weekend for the WNBA All-Star Game. Carter showed her support for her teammate on Twitter before the game, prompting Reese to reply with a quote tweet.
The rookie for the Chicago Sky believes Carter deserves an All-Star selection for her impressive performance in the first half of the season.
“You should be here but I’m playing for you today CHENNDOLL!” Reese tweeted.
Carter is in her first season with the Sky after playing overseas in the 2023 season. She started off the season coming off the bench for the first 12 games before becoming a starter.
Since then, Carter has been a standout player for the team, averaging 21.4 points, 3.1 assists, and 1.5 steals in her 12 starts. She is shooting 51.7% from the field and has shown impressive speed and skill in driving to the basket.
Formerly with the Atlanta Dream, Carter was the runner-up for Rookie of the Year in 2020 before being traded to the Los Angeles Sparks. After a short stint with the Sparks, she played in Turkey before finding success with the Sky.
Reese, on the other hand, has had a standout rookie season, breaking the WNBA record with 15 consecutive double-doubles. She is averaging 13.5 points and 11.9 rebounds per game, putting herself in the running for Rookie of the Year.
The Sky are currently 10-14 and holding onto the eighth playoff spot. With the recent trade of Marina Mabrey, Carter will have even more opportunities to shine on the court.
The future looks bright for the Sky with players like Reese, Carter, and rookie Kamilla Cardoso. The WNBA All-Star Game will feature Team USA players against the remaining top All-Stars who were not selected for the national team.
