LSU standout Angel Reese has officially announced her declaration for the WNBA, revealing her decision on Instagram. Reese, also known as the Bayou Barbie, began her collegiate career at the University of Maryland before transferring to LSU. During her junior year, she showcased impressive stats with an average double-double of 23 points and 15 rebounds. Her success both on and off the court, including her social media presence and appearance on the cover of SLAM 243, alongside teammate Flau’jae Johnson, solidified her position as a standout player.
“I just wanted to discover my true self,” Reese shared in 2023 before securing the NCAA championship. “Being at LSU allowed me to truly understand myself and be comfortable. I am able to be authentic here, which is something I deeply cherish.”
Reese, the 2023-24 SEC Player of the Year, shared her reasoning for entering the WNBA with Vogue’s Leah Faye Cooper just before the NCAA Tournament began. “I want to challenge myself by starting at the bottom once more,” she expressed. “Becoming a rookie again will allow me to grow, learn, and face new challenges at the professional level.”
