Basketball is far from just basketball in the digital era. With Unrivaled entering the scene, it’s a bit of everything, including behind-the-scenes drama, entertainment, player-focused innovation, and, obviously, some serious hoops. And without a second thought, we just know who’s taking charge of the TikTok trends in the new league. Angel Reese! It seems like she is already spreading her energy to her peers, dishing out unfiltered feedback.
Very recently, Reese’s former Chicago Sky teammate Marina Mabrey posted a hilariously awkward viral dance TikTok in the gym with Satou Sabally. Captioned “HAHA,” the video went viral, but Reese wasn’t about to let it slide. “Marina, I think you can do better 😭😭🤣,” she replied.
The 28-year-old, clearly taking the critique in stride, shot back, “I deffff can imma try again tmrw 😅.” Reese, however, wasn’t letting her off that easy, writing, “Because the way you came in the training room today so excited for me to see, I was expecting better, sister 😭🤣🤣🤣.”

As they gear up for Unrivaled, the ballers are indeed having their own fun. Reese and Mabrey did spend time together in Sky, but now the duo will be on separate teams in the Unrivaled, with Mabrey joining Phantom and Reese in Rose.
However, their time in the Windy City was also very short as Marina requested a trade to Sun after the half season. It’s still a wonder if things could have been different had she stayed. The star guard was arguably Chicago’s best player, averaging 14 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.2 steals in 24 games.
At the time of her trade, Chicago’s record was a shaky 10-14, and Mabrey had reportedly grown dissatisfied with her role and the team’s direction. Post-trade, she flourished, helping Connecticut reach the semifinals of the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Sky struggled, finishing the season 13-27 and dealing with plenty of off-court drama.
Mabrey’s exit interview stirred the pot even further. “There’s a level of discipline and a level of professionality here [Sun] where the players just have to worry about playing basketball,” she commented. While her remarks could have been about her earlier years, one couldn’t help but link them to Chicago’s second-half collapse and the firing of head coach Teresa Weatherspoon.
Reports even suggested Weatherspoon designed much of the Sky’s offense around Reese. However, some still thought the management should have given her more time before making the final call. But this doesn’t mean the coaching doors close for Weatherspoon, as she is now set to begin a new journey under the same roof as Reese and Mabrey,
Angel Reese’s former coach to lead Vinyl
Teresa Weatherspoon’s next chapter begins with Unrivaled, where she’ll coach Vinyl, one of the league’s six teams. This new role doesn’t rule out future WNBA opportunities, but it does mark her entry into a historic, player-centered off-season league.

Weatherspoon’s roster is stacked with talent, featuring names like Aliyah Boston, Rae Burrell, Jordin Canada, Dearica Hamby, Rhyne Howard, and Arike Ogunbowale. Alex Bazzell, Unrivaled’s president, explained why Weatherspoon was a perfect fit.
“She has the experience of being a head coach in the WNBA. She’s well-respected,” he told SB Nation. “She’s a former player, a legend in her own right, and she understands player development.” And Weatherspoon’s resume speaks for itself.Though her recent WNBA tenure ended controversially, her legacy and ability to nurture talent remain undeniable. Unrivaled’s mission prioritizes player growth, and Weatherspoon’s extensive background makes her a ‘natural fit.’
And on the opening day, her Vinyl faces none other than Angel Reese’s Rose. With Weatherspoon coaching against her former player, it will be a must-watch. Who will come out on top?
