Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese paid homage to three-time WNBA champion Candace Parker by breaking Parker’s record for most consecutive double-doubles on Sunday.
Reese achieved 17 points and 14 rebounds in the Sky’s 84-71 defeat to the Seattle Storm, securing her historic 13th consecutive double-double. Parker, who guided the Sky to their only title in 2021, previously held the WNBA record with 12 games across the 2009 and ’10 seasons while playing for the Los Angeles Sparks.
During a postgame press conference, Reese was asked about her feelings on reaching such a milestone and surpassing Parker’s long-standing record. Her response displayed pure admiration.
“She’s the G.O.A.T.,” Reese remarked about Parker (at the 1:40 mark in the video). “I’ve had conversations with her, her family, her mom, I’ve spoken with them even before I arrived in Chicago… I’ve always admired CP3 and I strive to incorporate some aspects of her game into mine. Being recognized alongside such an incredible player will always be significant to me.”
Currently averaging 14.1 points and 11.9 rebounds per game, Reese’s 14 double-doubles as a rookie tie her for the fifth-most in a single season. Reese and the Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark emerge as the frontrunners in this year’s Rookie of the Year race, with both their teams contending for a spot in the playoffs.
