Another change has occurred in the WNBA coaching scene, as the Chicago Sky has hired Tyler Marsh, an assistant coach from the Las Vegas Aces, as their new head coach, as reported by ESPN.
At just 36 years old, Marsh becomes the youngest coach in the league. His hiring comes on the heels of the Indiana Fever’s announcement of Stephanie White as their new head coach, following her departure from the Connecticut Sun.
Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese, a longtime rival of Caitlin Clark, quickly reacted to Marsh’s hiring with a simple “W” in a tweet.

Reese also exchanged banter with Sydney Colson from the Aces, joking about the departure of their assistant coach. She playfully responded with a challenge to Colson and Alysha Clark, indicating that the Sky’s time was now.
In response to a tweet by Colson, Alysha Clark humorously urged for some time before any further changes, with Reese chiming in with playful remarks and emojis.

Introducing Tyler Marsh
Marsh takes over from Teresa Weatherspoon, who was relieved of her duties in September after the Sky’s playoff miss for the first time in five years. Marsh joins from Las Vegas Aces, where he worked under Becky Hammon since 2022.
During his tenure with the Aces, Marsh contributed to back-to-back championships. He also had a stint with the NBA’s Pacers in a similar role. Previously, Marsh was involved with the Raptors in various coaching capacities, including player development and video analysis.
One of Marsh’s notable successes was the development of Aces guard Jackie Young, who achieved significant milestones in her career. This experience is crucial as the Sky’s roster includes young talents like Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso.

Reasons for Teresa Weatherspoon’s Dismissal
Following a WNBA championship in 2021, Chicago elevated its expectations. However, Weatherspoon struggled in her first season, managing just 13 wins with a youthful and promising lineup.
The Sky narrowly missed the playoffs, marking their first absence since 2018. Notably, a coaching change then led to a successful phase under James Wade, culminating in a championship.
Wade’s departure to the Raptors prompted Weatherspoon’s hiring, setting off a chain of events that eventually led to Marsh becoming the new head coach of the Chicago Sky.
