Angel Reese Has No Respect for Napheesa Collier’s Unrivaled Honor as She Makes Strong Claim on Roses Teammate

If you were to define Angel Reese, some words would be– resilient, fiery, competitive, vocal, and… unapologetic. The Chi-Town Barbie knows when to pick battles and when to continue them. And seems like she is welcoming a new one with open arms. On February 21, the Rose BC handed Napheesa Collier’s 13-1 Lunar Owls their first and only loss leading into the playoffs. In that game, Reese went for a 22-points, 21 rebounds double-double, creating the league’s first 20-20 game. But what she did next is what heated the rivalry between the two teams.

In her classic unapologetic fashion, the forward left into the tunnel fluttering her hands like wings and saying, “Hootie hoot, hootie hoot.” Guesses what that was? It was Angel’s way of saying Lunar BC could be at the top, but they were better. In their next matchup on March 7th, WNBA’s reigning DPOY avenged the loss. In a 66-56 win, Phee showed off her physical side, shoving and challenging Reese. And the Chicago Sky star ensured to pay back.

However, Collier had the last laugh, literally! With her game-winner, she trash-talked Reese which many believe was “Give me that s—,” something Reese says while grabbing rebounds. So, when Unrivaled dropped its inaugural league awards, she did not shy away on sharing her thoughts on the league’s first-ever MVP award, pushing her teammate’s name for the honor, snubbing the awardee Napheesa for good.

Reese fired off a tweet that left zero room for interpretation: “CHELSEA MF GRAY. MV PG. END OF CONVO.” No congrats for Collier. No acknowledgment of her MVP win. Just a clear, unfiltered message—Reese firmly believes Gray was the real MVP.

Reese’s tweet came after Chelsea Gray put a showdown of a clinic in Rose’s semifinals matchup vs the Laces BC. In a close 63-57 win where Reese did not play due to her left wrist injury recurring, Point Gawd went for a league’s all-time high 39 points on 15 of 23 shooting with five threes. In fact, with her final shot from beyond the arc, Gray pushed Rose BC to a final appearance on Monday against the Vinyl BC. No doubt, Reese had to hype her up!

And if you think the vocal representation by the injured Reese went unnoticed by Gray, think again! The WNBA veteran appreciated the Sky No. 5 in the postgame presser, “It’s great. She brings the energy whether she’s on the court or off the court and tonight was no different. I heard her all the time when our play defensively or offensively was going our way. When it wasn’t going our way I still heard her. So, she’s a presence out there, she’s very very vocal and so we needed that energy.”

Collier, though, kept it classy after winning the MVP. “I couldn’t do any of this without my teammates,” Collier said. “This has been such an incredible season, and everyone played a part in our success.” Even with the playoff exit, Collier made sure to give credit to her squad for the Owls’ dominant regular season. Going into the playoffs, Phee was league’s leading scorer with 25.7 points and top-5 in rebounds with 10.6 rpg.

At the same time, Chelsea is leading the league at the third spot with 21.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game. We can see why Reese would make a case for Gray, because with her numbers and her dominance, she too was making a case for her own MVP selection.

No doubt, the two stars have become closer than ever in the Miami-based. In fact, Reese was excited to learn things from Gray when the teams were announced. And she certainly has learned some things for sure. While Reese did not get the First Team honors, she did clench the DPOY award leading the league in rebounds with 12.1 boards per game and a team-high 8 blocks. Seemingly, she is continuing her dominant form from WNBA’s 28th season and into Miami.

With this honor in her name, the Las Vegas Aces point guard told ESPN, “Double-double machine. She’s somebody who has a knack for rebounding and just goes after it. It’s really hard to do that consistently. It’s a lot on your body. It’s a mindset that you have to have, and it’s one she’s had this whole time.”

While Collier may have the MVP trophy, Gray’s clutch performance speaks for itself. And Reese’s tweet? Yeah, it made it pretty clear where her loyalty stands. But seems like the Sky star is only on her way up when it comes to the 3×3 league.

Angel Reese makes history in Unrivaled

“Being a part of history with you all has been such an incredible experience!” Reese wrote. And honestly, it’s hard to argue with that. Reese has been making serious noise in the Unrivaled. She produced the first 20-20 game in league history, averaging 13.1 points and 12.2 rebounds per game in the league’s debut season as she notched 8 double-doubles.

Reese also anchored the Rose BC defense, helping them hold opponents to a league-low 65.2 points per game. That defensive edge was a big reason Rose turned things around after a rough start.

Rose began the season 1-4 and looked like they might miss the playoffs. But then they flipped the script, rattling off five straight wins — including handing the league-leading Lunar Owls their only loss of the season. They finished the regular season winning seven of their last nine games, making them one of the hottest teams heading into the playoffs.

Chelsea Gray, who’s been leading the charge alongside Reese, summed it up perfectly. “I’m always the person who believes it’s not the way you start the season, it’s the way you finish it,” Gray said after their final regular-season game. “Midway through you want to start building those habits and chemistry and camaraderie.”

Looking back on the season, Reese called it a steppingstone for what’s next—the WNBA season in May. She’s already made history in Unrivaled, and now, she’s ready to carry that momentum straight into the W. While she missed the semifinals clash due to her left wrist injury that was stabilized with screws after her rookie season ended with the same, fans would be hoping to see her in the Finals matchup today.
